Description: 17th century Chinese glazed red porcelain serving bowl. This unusual porcelain bowl has a dynamic glaze. It was made in the 17th century (possible late 16th) century and is heavily potted. The shape of the upper lip suggests that it could possibly have accommodated a wooden bowl shaped top. The unglazed foot ring shows the typical wear and patination of many years of use. There is a small raised area (see photo) that protrudes above the surrounding surface. It doesn't seem to be glued in place and is stable. This small defect probably occurred during firing in the kiln. Note that the crackle pattern doesn't go through this raised area. This would not be the case if this area had been struck and chipped. This piece is from an old Korean ceramics collection.
