Description: Holy moly. This magnificent antique hardcover book of adventure tales by the prolific and popular author T.S. Arthur has one of my favorite covers of the age and genre. Adventure Tales By Land and Sea: Shipwrecks, Travels, and Adventures in Foreign Lands was copyrighted in 1889, and this rich edition was published in 1891. 132 years old. The cover is a treasure. It is a hardcover, and the boards are so well worn at the edges from use as to render them rounded. Discolored and heavily scuffed with age, yet still utterly enchanting, it feels like it could be a magical prop in a time travel movie that launches the story upon opening. The binding is very loose and crumbly, detached in places, and with the first two pages loose from it but the rest are still attached. There are pages with their corners missing - the paper has become more fragile with age and enjoyment. And yet. This book is really special. There are color illustrations within that are dreamy. Due to its fragility, I would consider this book a display piece, though it is still crisp and clean inside for reading, for the discerning book lover who will handle with extreme care, and not worry too much if a piece flakes off.
