Description: 1897 Cabinet CardAmerican ShipsAmerican Nation Co., Waterville, Main An extremely scarce vintage cabinet card showcasing 64 different American ships. This photo has a copyright date of 1897 by the American Nation Co. of Waterville, Maine as marked on the bottom. This was just prior to the start of the Spanish American War, in which many of these ships would serve. The famous USS Maine is visible near the upper right. Although each thumbnail sized ship view is very small, they are still quite detailed and have the name printed below each ship. SIZE: This is a standard size cabinet card, measuring 6.5" by 4.25" in size. CONDITION: Good overall condition, but does show some noticeable signs of age and wear. There is a crease/crack through the upper center that goes through 3 of the ship images. There is an additional heavy crease to the upper left corner that only goes through the backing...not the photo portion. Corners are bumped and it also shows other general wear as would be expected with age. The image is somewhat faint, just how it was developed and possibly some mild fading over the years.
