Description: 1934 news poster: topiary in England This is a rare Illustrated Current News poster, dated Sept. 28, 1934. It measures 12 x 19 inches in size. Printed on glossy paper, it is in excellent condition, with two old fold lines, as originally issued. It also has 4 thumbtack perforations in its blank left margin. (These Illustrated Current News posters were published 3 times a week. They were folded into quarters when they were mailed to subscribers, which were typically stores or newsstands which displayed them for viewing by their customers.) This poster presents a photo of a huge topiary sculpture. Judging by the height of the man working on it, the hedge being clipped is close to 20 feet high. The poster's headline and caption says: A HORSEMAN RISES OUT OF A HEDGE Essex, England A gardener at work trimming a giant hedge to resemble a horseman. The giant hedges ultimately will be formed to resemble hounds and horsemen hunting the stag. The poster has the National Recovery Administration eagle symbol in its bottom left corner, with the slogan, NRA Member - U.S. - We Do Our Part. The N.R.A. was a cornerstone of FDRs New Deal policies which helped America recover from the Great Depression. [gsp12307] _gsrx_vers_1680 (GS 9.8.3 (1680))
