Description: 1998 Porsche Monterey Official 50th Anniversary 356 Model on Pedestal in BoxLimited Edition SeriesPrototype - 1 of 1 This is the prototype model that was made prior to commissioning the limited series of 400 models for the 50th Anniversary of Porsche cars that bear the Porsche name. Porsche was the featured marque for the Monterey Historics that were held in the month of August in 1998. Porsche Cars North America sponsored a special Celebration Dinner in Monterey / Laguna Seca at which the attending guests were presented a very limited-edition model, a 356-001 next to a pylon that bears the Porsche crest. Bill Walters was part of a team that responsible for the creation of a prototype sample prior to approval for the production of the 400 limited models. Looking at the model, you can see that the place of the prototype plinth is a slightly different size than the impression on the black pedestal on which sits. The prototype sample uses a different silver plinth than the other 400 that were produced. The model is overall in good shape with minor wear on the pylon. The black pedestal also shows some wear. I believe the model was made by Minichamps, also known as Paul’s Model Art. This is your one-time chance to acquire a unique prototype of an already rare set of 400 units made.
