Description: A fine Late Federal period two part flame mahogany veneered bookcase / secretary desk, its upper case with molded cornice surmounting two doors with glazed glass panels, opening to three interior bookshelves, flanked with attached front corner columns, over a drop down front with compartmentalized interior with four fitted drawers and eight valanced cubbies, and a fold out felted writing surface. The lower case features a frieze drawer (doubling a a loper for the writing surface) over two blind paneled doors, opening to a single shelf storage compartment, flanked by full corner columns, all supported by two nicely carved front paw feet. The piece dates to the early 1800’s and is in very good condition, with some imperfections, mostly around the writing surface, some hinge repairs, surface scratches/losses, felt discoloration and tears, and other imperfections and wear commensurate with age and use.
