KIT CAN BE MODIFIED FOR YOUR PARTICULAR APPLICATION - MESSAGE ME BEFORE PLACING ORDER! Intake side - OUTSIDE DIMENSION OF PVC ADAPTER THAT FITS INTO RUBBER INTAKE MANIFOLD = 42.00 mm O.D.(Works excellent for 35-40mm carburetors)Dependent on your carburetor size and condition of your rubber intake manifold boot, you can build the outside diameter of the PVC fitting that fits inside the rubber boot with complete wraps of electrical tape for an initial snug fit with no clamp torque. Then you can tighten the clamp provided in the kit for your leakdown test. Exhaust side - INTERNAL RUBBER EXPANSION PLUG THAT FITS IN EXHAUST PORT = (47mm-50mm), (1-7/8" - 2") Test your engine to see if it will hold 6 psi of air pressure for 6 minutes: Honda CR250 Specific Instructions - Make sure you have the piston at BDC (Bottom Dead Center) before performing a Leak-Down test. Setting your piston to BDC - Remove the spark plug. Insert a new pencil (eraser side first) into the spark plug hole until it hits the piston. Turn the motor slowly (using the kick starter) until the pencil is at the lowest point in the bore. You are now at BDC. Remove the pencil, replace & tighten the spark plug. Continue the Leak-Down test. Do not add air to the engine using an air compressor since the pressure rises quickly, and you risk blowing your crankshaft seals. Even if your air compressor has a pressure regulator, you are hard-pressed to regulate air pressure under 20 psi. Using a bicycle hand pump, stop adding air when the gauge reads 6 psi. Optimally, after 6 minutes, the gauge will still read 6 psi. If the air pressure gauge DOES NOT hold 6 psi: Fill a spray bottle with water. Add five or six pumps of dishwashing soap (For example, Dawn). Gently mix soap with water (Don't shake). Liberally spray your entire engine with the soapy solution. Next, pump 6 psi air pressure into your motor. You are looking for bubbles, thus showing you where your air leaks are (see photos). The slower your engine loses air pressure, the harder it will be to find your air leak or leaks. If you see no visible signs of air leakage, but your gauge continues to lose air pressure, take your clutch cover off and check for leaks around the primary gear and keyway. If there are still no leaks, pull your stator cover and flywheel to check for leaks. If you still cannot locate any visible signs of air leakage, you will need to replace the crankshaft seals in your motor. Then, perform the Leak-Down test again. IS A LEAK-DOWN TEST ON MY TWO-STROKE ENGINE REALLY NECESSARY? - YES, IT IS! You will notice a surprising performance increase fixing even the smallest of air leaks making this test exciting to do and worth your effort. In addition, you will benefit from Snappier, Crisp throttle response, and more Power! Trying to tune your engine with air leaks can be very frustrating, especially when you do not know you have air leaks. This must-have tool should be used anytime you notice an unexpected change in engine performance—a real game changer. All air required for your engine to run correctly must be metered through the carburetor or air filter. There is a high probability you have air leaks if you experience any of these symptoms, Hard to start (tons of kicking), no start, power loss, high-revving, hanging idle, no idle, running hot, running poorly, running erratically, or unreliably. Air leaks occur at random. If not taken care of, they get worse. I have leaked down hundreds of two-stroke engines, and most of them have some degree of air leakage. So the first thing to do, Leak test your engine and fix your air leaks! Then you can tune and dial in your setup. Air leaks will cause your engine to run lean, generating excessive heat and detonation. Detonation will destroy your engine. If you know your motor is not running right, Leak it down immediately to eliminate air leaks as the issue. Catastrophic engine failure happens fast. Cheap insurance and peace of mind are great, knowing your two-stroke engine has no air leaks. The alternative will be frustrating, expensive, and time-consuming to recover from.
