Description: ARBOR NUTS ARE BACK !!!THIS IS AN ALL NEW ARBOR NUT FOR A DELTA UNISAWAFTER THREE YEARS OF NOT HAVING THE ARBOR NUT AVAILABLE, WE ARE NOW BACK IN BUSINESS. We lost our first supplier for the nut due to Covid, and then a second supplier due to the cost of manufacturing and labor availability. This is a difficult nut to manufacture due to the special 5/8-12 left hand acme style thread profile that Delta used on their table saw arbors and dual shaft grinders. We had countless hours in perfecting the thread with our first two suppliers, but all was lost when these companies were no longer available. Over the last few months, we worked diligently with a new Michigan supplier to resurrect the Delta arbor nut. Using expensive special made taps, proved to be unsuccessful because of the fixed profile and subsequent wear issues that wouldn’t maintain an accurate thread profile over time and extended use. With the expertise of a fully qualified machinist, we designed and purchased special cutting tools to allow fine tuning of the thread profile to zero in on the perfect fitting nut. With the CNC capability of the machining process, we were able to adjust the major and minor diameters, the groove depth, and the land width by one-thousandths of an inch at a time until we were totally satisfied with the fit. The outside dimension of the hex nut is 7/8” across the flats. The nut is heavier duty and thicker than the original equipment nut and works with all regular blades and most dado blades. The thickness of our nut measures .475”, as compared to the OEM stock nut at .265”. All of our arbor nuts are now “black oxide plated” for increased corrosion protection and appearance. Each nut has been checked and doubled checked for fit on a dozen or more vintage used Delta saw arbors. Delta didn’t have computer controlled machining and used multiple shops and locations to manufacture their machines back in the 40’s, 50’s, and 60’s. You would be amazed at the differences we have found in thread consistency and fit. This has always been a problem so finding the perfect nut that fits all of the thousands and thousands of vintage machines was always an issue.Add to that, consider the nicks and blemishes that are found on arbors that have been used in the field for some 70-75 years. Our first few years of offering arbor nuts, we sold over 2500 arbor nuts. The arbor nut was our most popular product. Occasionally we got feedback of a nut that seem tight on the arbor, usually due to a burr or nicked thread, but not very often, because of an issue with the nut. The remedy then, and still now, is to apply a small dab of Permatex valve grinding compound on the nut and arbor threads before screwing the nut on and off a couple of times to lap the fitment perfectly. A tube of Permatex lapping compound is only a couple of $ at any auto parts store. However, we don’t anticipate any fitment issues with the new nut. After extensive development and a lot of testing we believe we have resolved 99% of any fitment issues that would be experienced in the field. The group of used arbors shown in one of the photos is only part of the various arbors we continue to test the new nuts on.For sure, check out our blade washer that is a perfect complement to our heavy duty arbor nut. The thick walled fully machined washer matches the diameter of the Unisaw arbor and will help stabilize the saw blade. A photo is included in this listing, but you can find the blade washer in another of our current eBay listings. The shipping on a single arbor nut to anywhere in the lower 48 states is $4.75 in a padded and trackable envelope. Shipping on additional arbor nuts on the same order is $0.50 each. Other locations may have to pay an additional shipping fee.
