They look like miniature clovers with a pointy tip, similar to a garlic clove, but with a blunt side. Corms are a cost-effective way to increase your elephant garlic crop, but it can take a couple of seasons. You can plant them in the fall or leave them in the ground to sprout in the spring. Before planting, you can score the corms and soak them in water overnight. When planting, position the corms with the pointy tip facing up, just like you would with garlic cloves. In the first season, the corms will grow into "rounds" that look like onions and haven't split into cloves. You can cook these rounds like pearl onions and eat them, or you can plant them again in the second season. In the second season, the rounds will develop into full-sized elephant garlic bulbs with 46 cloves and more corms. It can take around 23 years for corms to mature into normal-sized bulbs.
