Description: There are two parts of this item. The first is the box for the razor. The box is by the H.M.C. Cutlery Company of New Bedford MA. The two piece black box is 6 1/2" long x 1" wide x 5/8" thick, and is designed to hold a straight edge razor. It displays the HMC Cutlery Co whale trademark. The presumed date for this box is the 1920's (or earlier). The razor, however, has markings attributing it to J.M. Garrett Barbers' Supplies of Kansas City MO. This is stamped on one side of the blade. On the other side of the blade are the words "Revenue Cutter," the image of a sailing ship (cutter) and the words "German Make". The blade is clearly used, as would be expected. In the closed position, the razor is 6 long x 3/4" wide x 1/4" thick. In the fully extended open position, it is 9" long. There appears to be some rust or tarnish on the blade, and one would certainly want to hone it before ever using it. Please consult the pictures for accuracy and condition. I believe that this razor and box were left over after my grandfather died (in 1929). I found it in my mother's effects after she died. She clearly got it from the accumulated effects of her mother, my grandmother.
