Description: Today we're offering a fantastic antique shelf, or mantel clock made by Junghans of Germany, circa late 1800's or early 1900's. We recently purchased it from a collector's estate. It was running at the time of purchase but now runs intermittently. We are not clock experts and are not sure if it just needs a cleaning or what. It appears to have had work or maintenance done to it before as there are some date marks in ink as pictured. The paper tag on the back door says it was originally sold by "R L Christie", a high-end retailer in Edinburgh, Scotland established in 1821 by John Mackenzie. The store remained in business until the early 2000's. The movement is marked "Junghans" with a star. It's in a beautifully carved wood case, most likely made of Walnut. The front door, which opens to the face has beveled glass. The face of the clock has Roman numerals and is beautifully decorated with gold ormolu designs. There is a bit of scratching and staining on the gold face as pictured. It measures 19" tall to the top of the finial, 11" wide and 7" deep. The pendulum and key are included as pictured. We do not know if the key is original. It appears that the latch on the back door has been replaced with what looks like a makeshift piece of masking tape. Overall, it's a really beautiful old clock! * Clock is sold as-is. No guarantee or warranty is included. No returns. Track Page Views WithAuctiva's Counter
