Description: ARIEL by Sylvia Plath - First Edition 1965 Faber and Faber - Poetry Collection. This is the true first edition of ARIEL, the famous collection of poems by Sylvia Plath which was published posthumously in 1965 by Faber and Faber, London. 86 pages. Mylar dust jacket cover is included. Sylvia Plath wrote these poems in a white hot burst of creativity in the weeks before she committed suicide in her cold London flat, where she lived with her two young children as a single mother (having been abandoned by her husband, the poet Ted Hughes). She wrote at the incredible rate of two or three powerful and masterful poems a day. Measurements: 8 3/4" high, 5 3/4" wide and 5/8" thick. Condition: Hard covered book: red cloth covered boards with gold lettering on spine. In very good condition with no damage other than a bit of soiling to top edge (photo 4). The pages are very clean with no writing, marks or bookplates in the book. Dust jacket is in exceptionally good condition with no tears or chips and is not price clipped; there is sun tanning on spine and spotting on back of jacket (see photo 6), and has the publisher's 12s 6d net printed price present on the front flap.
