Beethoven - String Quartets Nos. 1 & 11 - Smetana Quartet

Description: This 1965 British import stereo album from Parliament Records (PLPS-614) comprises performances by the Smetana Quartet (Jiří Novák, Lubomir Kostecký, Milan Škampa and Antonín Kohout) of works by Ludwig van Beethoven: String Quartet No. 1 in F Major, Op. 18 and String Quartet No. 11 in F Minor, Op. 95. Album notes are in English by Robert Angus. Oddly, the players in the Smetana Quartet are only identified by name on the label of the record itself, not in the album notes. The exact year of this release is unclear, as the title was first issued in 1962, but this stereo disc has what appear to be recording engineer's dates of October and November 1965 near the inner runout groove. The outer sleeve shows a small collection index sticker in the upper right corner of the back (Photo 2). This is one of many titles from an extensive collection of classical LPs and CDs that we will be listing here. All have been carefully stored for many years, played only on premium equipment, and show little to no wear.
