Description We are proud to be able to offer a fine original hand colored stipple engraved print by J.J. Jung from his masterful work entitled Iconographie Du Genre Camellia ou collection des Camellias les plus beaux et les plus rares peints d’après nature dans les serres de Mr. l’Abbé Berlese par J.J. Jung (Iconography of the Camellia or Description and Pictures of the Most Beautiful and the Most Rare Camellias Painted from Nature). This work was published in Paris between 1841-43. These camellia flowers, pink, white, and striated, are from the definitive 19th century work on the subject. Each flower was drawn by J.J. Jung, a member of the Royal Society for Horticulture in Paris, from the varieties grown in the gardens and hothouses of Berlese, an Italian botanist who became the world’s leading authority on the subject. The subtle distinctions of many of the hundreds of varieties of camellias classified by Berlèse are beautifully represented with scientific accuracy in this authoritative series of prints, through the use of the sophisticated stipple engraving technique. We are fortunate enough to have acquired several prints from this important work that we will be listing at the most competitive prices possible. We also have other architectural, natural history plates as well as original maps, all guaranteed original.
