Description: Ceramic Arts Studio (Madison WI 1940-55) is well-known for its beautifully designed & decorated figurines of people & animals. This cute little girl sitting on a tuffet made in 1948 from their "Nursery Rhymes" series is "Little Miss Muffet". We can assume she is sitting on her tuffet, eating her curds and whey as the nursery rhyme goes. This is the first "Little Miss Muffet" shape done in 1948, with the second in 1949, and the third in 1955.Seated, she is about 4-1/4 inches tall, 2-1/4 inches across her skirt, and 2-1/4 inches front-to-back. She was available with detailing in various colors. The detailed hand-decoration typical of CAS pieces is evident in this piece with the decoration and trim on her apron, dress, and eyes with eyelashes. She is not marked but is definitely a Ceramic Arts Studio figurine as can be seen on page 79 of the 2003 reference book "Ceramic Arts Studio The Legacy of Betty Harrington".She is in very good vintage condition - no chips, hairlines, or crazing.
