Illustrations include photogravures, etchings, wood engravings and typogravures, each are tissue guarded. All lettered tissue guards present on frontispieces, photogravures printe on the hess press (as stated). A stunning set in very good condition. This set covers characters from the great works of Antiquity to the Victorian era of 1890. Several entries have excepts from the novel the character originated from in the description. Each engraving includes a short blurb from the book the character originated from printed on the tissue guard. Light wear, yellowing. Previous owner name present in blue pen. This is an oversized or heavy book and entire set weighs 29 lbs. Condition: Very good, corner bumps, normal age wear and tear. Pls. magnify photos for over-all condition.
