Description: Up for Auction! In excellent condition, Classics Club John Locke On Politics and Education Introduction by Penniman 1947. "Part I of III A Letter Concerning Toleration A seminal essay on religious toleration. Too bad no one confronted him – Dryden would have – on his anti-Catholic stand. Teresa May should read this. Toleration is not to be afforded a religion whose premise affords its adherents to falsify under oath. Such a belief is pernicious to any polity. Part II of III Second Treatise on Government One of the greatest political philosophers, he is a joy to read. Clear and concise. His ideas still apply today. Often, however, he is misapplied. He believed in separation of powers, but recommended a parliament style democracy and not three, separate, co-equal branches as in the United States. Part III of III Some Thoughts Concerning Education A recommended read to all who contemplate parenting. Be forewarned: Locke’s essay seems antithetical to the current popular view. Considering when he had lived, his recommendations are enlightened.
