Description: Dendrobium kingianumDendrobium kingianum is the Easiest Orchid on Earth! It is super easy to grow, user-friendly, fragrant in bloom, fun, and a barrel of laughs, too! This is the perfect orchid for those who just struggle with growing, as it is very fault-tolerant, and thrives on neglect. It is definitely HARD TO KILL! (Some people manage to, though…) Imagine that every plant family on Earth had to enter one representative into a massive contest to see which one could outgrow all the others and take over the planet, sort of like a giant Hunger Games for plants. Well, the Orchidaceae (i.e., Orchid Family) would definitely select Dendrobium kingianum (hailing from Australia), as its representative and Champion. While other plants types might grow faster (e.g., tomatoes, cannabis, basil, etc.), can they handle the many different climates this native Australian species can? NO! (Read on below for more info). FULL DISCLOSURE MESSAGE SO YOU WILL BE AN INFORMED BUYER:I AM OFFERING HERE SMALL KEIKIS/CANES/OFFSHOOTS THAT WILL GROW BIGGER. PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE NEGATIVE COMMENTS ON HOW SMALL THEY ARE WHEN YOU GET YOUR PLANTS! THAT’S WHAT I'M OFFERING HERE: SMALL CANES/KEIKIS/OFFSHOOTS! THERE ARE PLENTY OF SIZE MARKERS IN THE PHOTO FOR YOU TO GET A SENSE OF SIZE. PLEASE BE A CAREFUL BUYER AND CHECK OUT THE PICTURE OF THE CANES. (BASED ON MY PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE OFFERING SMALL PLANTS, I WILL NEED TO REPEAT THIS MESSAGE A FEW TIMES IN THIS LISTING!) We’re offering different sizes of canes, and each size is priced differently. For each price point, you will receive ONE (1) cane/keiki/offset of the selected size. Of course, you can order more than one. TRUE TALES OF DEN. KINGIANUM TOUGHNESS — BELIEVE IT OR NOT!!!1) I once packed up a couple of keikis identical to the ones in this listing. I misplaced the box FOR A YEAR. When I found the box and opened it, one of the keikis/canes STILL HAD GREEN LEAVES! The other one was shriveled, but still ALIVE! 2) I left a bunch of canes in a cardboard box without light in a warehouse where the temps got well over 100 F in the summer. These plants were baking every day of those summer months. When I finally got around to checking them out in the fall, very few had died, and most of the canes were putting out NEW SHOOTS! 3) While stressful situations can cause Den. kingianum to drop its leaves, I now believe this to be the plant’s NATURAL way of coping. Leaves on plants are needed for transpiration, and lead to evaporation of water from the plant. When a Den. kingianum drops its leaves due to perceived stress, it does so in order to limit evaporation from the cane. Keep in mind that the cane itself is a WATER STORAGE ORGAN, so dropping leaves enables the plant to enter a kind of HIBERNATION STATE. 4) When I first acquired these plants, I was advised by a true Orchid Master not to water them during the winter months, as they require a cold, dry spell to set bud for early spring blooms. This is still very true. But one of my customers did something RIDICULOUS — he stuck his cane in a bottle of water.. And it grew and grew and grew, and then flowered! AMAZING!!! ABOUT THE PLANTS BEING OFFERED HERE — PLEASE READ CAREFULLY! I’m offering here single cane “keikis”, also known as aerial propagations or offshoots, depending on who you ask. Each cane is genetically identical to the mother plant. These canes are of various sizes, but all descended from the same mother plant. So what’s the difference? The smaller canes will take a bit longer to produce longer canes, but all of these canes will eventually produce identical plants. The bigger canes will just get there a bit faster. IMPORTANT NOTE: PLEASE LOOK CAREFULLY AT THE PHOTO OF THE KEIKIS/CANES. THERE IS A RULER, A PEN, AND SOME COINS TO GIVE YOU A SENSE OF SIZE. CHECK CAREFULLY AND PICK YOUR SIZE IN THE PULL-DOWN MENU! CANES MAY NOT HAVE ROOTS, BUT ROOT IN A FEW WEEKS ONCE YOU PLANT THEM IN MOIST MATERIAL. We’re offering different sizes of canes, and each size is priced differently. For each price point, you will receive ONE (1) cane/keiki/offset of the selected size. Of course, you can order more than one. THESE ARE SMALL PLANTS (but will grow much bigger!). (BASED ON MY PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE OFFERING SMALL PLANTS, I WILL NEED TO REPEAT THIS MESSAGE A FEW TIMES IN THIS LISTING!). I regret having to be so in-your-face with this particular size warning message, but eBay is full of, uhh, interesting folk, and it always amazes me what a very small minority of people can find to complain about despite my BEST EFFORTS at presenting clear info about small plants! I have ZERO desire to mislead or misrepresent my plants — I’d like all buyers to make an informed decision! A few years ago, I sold SO MANY Den. kingianum plants here on eBay that I had to shut down my listing while I replenished my supply. My original listing sold thousands of these plants because this is an awesome orchid, and my listings are awesome, too. Since that original kingianum listing has been gone, I see that many other sellers on eBay have jumped on the bandwagon. Well you know what they say about imitation and flattery…. In fact, many of my listings on eBay have been copy-catted, so I must be doing something right! This cultivar of kingianum is so incredibly hardy that I am going to do something crazy, just like a late-night infomercial. I am so confident of the robustness of this cultivar of kingianum that I am willing to make a crazy, insane, outlandish guarantee practically unheard of in all of orchid commerce:MY GUARANTEE: If, against all odds, you manage to kill this kingianum within 30 days of your receiving it, I will ship you a FREE replacement (please send $2 to cover shipping). Offer valid only in the United States. HEY, WE HAVE A WINNER (ACTUALLY, THE OPPOSITE OF WINNER — you can fill in the blank.) Dear Reader, dId you read all the repeated alerts and warnings in this listing about the size of the canes/keikis being offered? There is even a photo of the same text in the photos section! The same info is repeated MANY times so as to make sure that potential buyers are clear on what we’re offering. Why are borderline obnoxious about it? It’s because we want to make sure that buyers know what they’re getting, and don’t have a reason to leave negative feedback. Since we put up all this repetitious verbiage, we haven’t had a negative feedback about this plant in YEARS. Until today, 2/2/20, from someone in Rhorme, TX. She takes the cake — complaining about the quantity received (uhmmm… she only bought one so she only received one), roots (didn’t read the growing instructions that say how easy this is to root). We’re pleased that eBay reviewed this situation and agreed that the negative was inappropriate. I mean, how much more clear and repetitive can I get about what we’re offering here? Of course, any of you who have to work with the general public know EXACTLY what I’m talking about, so high-fives to you! MORE INFO ON DEN. KINGIANUM... In the wild, D. kingianum grows in the eastern part of Australia where it clings to rocky surfaces or trees. It produces a profusion of fragrant purple, pink, or white flowers (depending on the type). It is a remarkably easy orchid to grow, and can be grown in fine fir bark, or sphagnum moss, or even mounted. D. kingianum has a number of great qualities, making it a great addition to any orchid collection: FRAGRANT flowers -- a wonderful fragrance will fill your home or growing area when these reach full bloom VERY easy to grow, can handle bright conditions or partial shade TEMPERATURE TOLERANT -- can grow outdoors where temps reach into the 90s F, or drop to the 30s F at night during the winter COMPACT -- a small plant can produce many dozens of flowers. It is perfect for growing on a kitchen windowsill. You can also grow it to large specimen size, as long as you keep re-potting it into bigger pots. LOTS OF KEIKIS -- produces new baby growths freely, so you can give them away. Great for orchid society giveaways to new members or door prizes. When D. kingianum gets to specimen size, it can produce hundreds of wonderfully fragrant flowers, a very impressive sight (and smell)! Be sure to give this a winter rest, with reduced watering around late October/November, and a good cool stretch to let the plant set its flowers. I've heard that you can induce blooming by putting the plant into a refrigerator in the evenings. Haven't tried that yet, but I definitely plan to! Shipping This plant will be shipped BARE ROOT.THESE ARE SMALL PLANTS (but will grow much bigger!). PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE NEGATIVE COMMENTS ON HOW SMALL THEY ARE WHEN YOU GET YOUR PLANTS! We will ship via USPS First Class Mail. eBay now requires us to specify the handling time until shipping, but please note that since we are dealing with living plants and uncertain weather conditions, we may need to adjust shipping times accordingly. While we do our best when packing your plants for shipment, the actions of the carrier are out of our control, so we cannot guarantee that in-bloom/in-spike plants will arrive with bloom/spike intact. We pack all of our plants with extra care so that they will arrive in excellent condition to join your collection.
