Dune Encyclopedia - Frank Herbert Willis E. McNelly Pennington 1st Print UK RARE

Description: Corgi Books The Dune Encyclopedia The Complete, Authorized Guide and Companion to Frank Herbert's Masterpiece of the Imagination Dr. Willis E. McNelly For sale is the "Dune Encyclopedia." This paperback reference book is the only book, outside of the original six Dune chronicles, authorized by Frank Herbert as being a companion work to his landmark series. Compiled by his lifelong friend, Dr. Willis E. McNelly, and featuring contributions and illustrations from multiple authors and sci-fi scholars (rumored to include Herbert himself), the Encyclopedia presents itself as an in-universe work, a recently discovered relic from the "Rakis Hoard," a time capsule buried by the God Emperor Leto II of Arrakis. You'll find entries ranging from whimsical to deeply detailed, on everything in the Dune universe from the first four books, including characters, technology, locations, political structures, history, flora and fauna, and more. As a Dune fan of many decades, I can tell you that this is my favorite "Dune" work, second only to Herbert's original "Dune" novel. It's a joy to return to, time and again, spending hours just paging through and browsing, finding new treasures each time. This book is extremely rare and long out of print. Both Dr. Willis E. McNelly (prior to his death) and the Herbert Estate have made it clear that this book will never be put back into print again. As such, it is only going to become more rare over time, especially with interest spiking due to the release of Denis Villeneuve's film adaptation. While others have attempted to expand the Dune universe beyond Herbert's original works, this is the only work to have actually received Frank Herbert's blessing, giving it a singular, unique status in the expanded "Dune" canon, especially amongst "Dune" purists. This is the first print of the UK edition of the book, making it especially rare. The UK editions of the "Dune" books had an especially unique set of cover art from Bruce Pennington, featuring flowing robes and hoods, banners and flags, and insect-like ornithopters - this would make a fine capstone for a collection of a set of the UK "Dune" books. This book is in good condition for a book of this age. No rips or tears are present, the binding is tight and intact, and there are no loose or warped pages. There is some shelf wear on the covers - specifically, some minor creases on the corners of the front cover, the lower right corner of the back cover, and a thin vertical crease on the back cover. There is also some scuffing on both covers and the spine, particularly around the edges, and a stress mark on the bottom edge of the spine. There are no markings inside. See the pictures for details. The wear is pretty much entirely cosmetic and is still structurally quite solid, so you won't worry about having to be super gentle while reading it. It was stored in a smoke-free, pet-free environment. Feel free to contact me with any questions you may have! Thank you! ABOUT ME I am a longtime Ebayer - both buying and selling for over 20 years, with a spotless record. This is because smooth, pleasant transactions and customer service are important to me. I've recently created this new account to separate my non-comics purchases from my comic book buying/selling. While its 100% positive feedback rating over the past several years speaks for itself, I am happy to provide you my personal Ebay account which also has 100% positive feedback over two decades. As a longtime Batman fan, I also know how important comic book condition is to collectors and readers, so you can feel comfortable knowing your purchases will be well taken care of! SHIPPING and OTHER TERMS Per Ebay rules, payment is expected within 4 days of the auction end, and I will ship within 3 business days of receiving payment - if payment is received by early evening, usually most items will ship the next business day (including Saturdays). Free shipping will be done via Media Mail in the lower 48 states. Customers from other states (or countries) can inquire for a shipping quote, but it will be more expensive. If a delivery cannot be made by the post office and the item is automatically returned by mail, I am willing to attempt a second shipment - however, the buyer will have to pay for the actual shipping cost of this second attempt (even if the first delivery was made via a "Free Shipping" option or a combined shipping discount was applied for the initial shipment). If an item is damaged in transit or does not otherwise match the original item description, I will provide a full refund - customer satisfaction is important to me. However, all items should be returned in the condition in which they were received. For example, if an item is sent sealed in the original shrink-wrap, it should be returned still sealed in the original shrink-wrap (guaranteeing the item was damaged in shipment and not after receipt). Items returned for reasons other than damage not mentioned in the listing (i.e., mistaken ordering, etc.) must also be sent in the condition in which they were received, and buyers will be assessed a $10 restocking fee per book. I am only interested in transactions with pleasant buyers who are purchasing and operating on Ebay in good faith. To that end, I will cancel any order from any problematic buyers or buyers with red flags. Red flags include: Large amounts of negative feedback from prior transactions High-value purchases from a brand new account without a transaction history Leaving negative feedback for invalid reasons (such as blaming sellers for USPS shipping delays that are out of their hands) Higher-than-average amount of negative feedback left for others More than 99% of my interactions on Ebay, as both a buyer and a seller, have been positive. If you seem to consistently have problems with other sellers, then the problem probably has less to do with other sellers and more to do with yourself - and out of respect for both your time and mine, I would rather not engage in a transaction that may leave either one of us feeling unhappy.
