Description: This cave des liqueurs is quite rare in that all original and matching decanters (4) and stems (16) are original, intact and (with one exception) flawless, with no rim chips, cracks or repairs. The one exception is one decanter stopper, which has broken cleanly, such that an expert glass repair craftsman could rejoin with minimal evidence (no missing chips). The etched design of all decanters, decanter stoppers and stems match, indicating 100% originality to all. The burlwood case is in outstanding condition, with no missing veneer or marquetry inlay. The top and front are exquisitely marquetried with brass, mother of pearl, and rosewood and other exotic woods. The top center brass medallion is inscribed "S.B." under a crown. Some warpage prevents the folding top from seating completely into the base, so it cannot close completely or lock (with the original key, provided). A barely-noticeable 3" crack to the burl of the front panel, left of the inlaid center, is the only other defect in this otherwise extraordinarily very good condition piece. Please do your research and shop other 19th century Caves des Liqueurs to fully appreciate the rarity of this example, in such outstanding condition and originality for its age. Given the fragility of all the glassware which are the primary determinant of the high value of this piece, we will not accept a return of this item. It will be expertly packed to ship, guaranteeing no brakeage of the glassware in transit to you. But the brakeage of just one item while being unpacked will render a return to us, with significantly reduced value, a complete loss. Hence we are sorry to not accept the return of this item.
