Description: RARE Set of Four (4) New England Glass Co. Pomona Cornflower 'FIRST GRIND' Amber Stain Punch Cups-Circa 1885 "Pomona" is the name of the product line, several different patterns were made: Cornflower, Blue Berry, Butterfly, even undecorated plain (I have one of the plain ones listed as a buy it now) and are still Pomona. Pomona is the acid etching technique not the pattern. First Grind was patented in 1885 by Joseph Locke, these are the first grind which required more time and expense to create, and consequently led to the production of the second grind due to the high cost of production. Second Grind was developed less than a year later. Very difficult to find a FIRST GRIND piece as so few were made due to the high cost. Measurements: 2 1/2" High
