The Queen Victoria issues of Great Britain span the years 1840-1900 and starts with the world's first postage stamp, the famous 'penny black' of 1840. This beginning era of postage stamps is a source of study due to the vast production varieties developed during these 60 years -- differences in paper, watermarks, perforations, plate numbers, and, cancellations.
