Description: This lot consists of two books, one hardback and one paperback. An Introduction to Hegel's Metaphysics by Ivan SollForeward by Walter Kaufmann published in 1969 by the University of Chicago Press This is an excellent book that provides what its title promises. This is an introduction, NOTthe last word on the subject. This book is fairlyeasy to read, considering the inherent difficultyof the subject matter. This is a hardback book, about 8.5" by 5.5", 160 pages. This is an ex-library book, with several library markings and inkstamps, and some paper remnantsglued to the inside back cover from where a library card pocket has been removed. Otherwise, the book is in good condition, with no highlighting or underlining. HEGEL:Texts and Commentary by Walter Kaufmann published in 1986 by the University of Notre Dame Press This book provides two of Hegel's texts: (1) The much discussed preface to his book THE PHENOMENOLOGY OF THE SPIRIT; (2) A short essay titled "Who Thinks Abstractly? ", which is MUCH easier to read than most of Hegel's writing. Kaufmann has translated both texts from the original German. Kaufmann was a Jew who wasborn and raised in Germany, before moving to the United States in 1939 to escape the Nazis. With the much more difficult and importanttext of the Preface, Kaufmann has provided the translation on the pages on the left side, and given extensive commentary on the facing pages. This is extremely helpful to anyone whowants to make sense of this work, which is widely considered to be the most important part of the most important book that Hegel ever wrote. This is a paperback book, about 8" by 5.3", 132 pages. The book is in fair/good condition, with handwritten notes and underlining on many pages, and some general wear.
