Description: HMS VICTORY WOOD This is an original rare piece of red painted Wood taken from H.M.S. Victory, which was Admiral Lord Nelsons Flagship at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805. During restoration of the Ship in the 1990's this small piece of Wood cut from a larger section which was removed due to decay/damage. This small wood section is an off-cut of Original Victory Wood used to make items for the HMS Victory 2000 MILLENIUM COLLECTION and other HMS Victory Items. Only good sound wood was used to make items and so edges of wood pieces and damaged parts were cut off. It comes with a certificate which will give the size and weight of the small wood piece and short history of HMS Victory. This very large Tri-angular shape block of original HMS Victory Wood is approx. (max.) 0.1 - 5.6 x 5.3 - 5.9 x 7.0 - 7.4 cm. See PHOTO's. This roughly Tri-angular wood section is smooth cut on four sides with one side age stained/marked. The age stained /marked side looks to be an outer open facing side in the ship, it would probably have been in the hold or other used used areas as worked in place had the wood dark stained or painted. The piece is cut from a much larger section and shows traces of old worm damage, the reason the wood section was probably removed. One edge has a large part round hole, this is part of a large hole that was dilled into the wood section to take a large wood peg or Trenall that was used to hold wood sections together. This was instead of using a costly bronze bolt or nail or a cheaper iron bolt or nail that would rust in the salty conditions and fail over time. This piece is much larger than most of the victory wood pieces I have had to list and its size would make a great talking point paper Weight or just curio on a shelf. .
