Description: This is a Japanese WWll Army officer`s sword in mountings. The blade is signed "Chounsai Emura saku 長運斎江村作", shinogi-zukuri shape, WWll time ca.1940 eramade blade. Emura became the director of Okayama prison and utilized prison labor to help him produce swords for the effort, listed in book Japanese Modern Swordsmiths page 28. The blade is traditional hand forged, water quenched, in recent Japanese full polish and in mint condition. The blade is no rust, no stain and cutting edge is razor sharp. The temper line is wavy gunome-choji temper pattern throughout the blade and has deep temper at the point. The forging grain is tight, no opening, no blister and no forging flaws. The scabbard is heavy metal, no lacquer loss, no crack, no dents, no bend and in mint condition. The handle is tightly fit, tsuka-ito wrapping has no cuts, no loose also in good condition. Tsuba, seppa and lock pin are matched number 38 stamped. Lock mechanism works fine. It measures 27+1/8" tip to the guard, 26+1/8" cutting edge, 1+3/16" width, 6 mm thickness at the notch and 39+1/2" in mountings.
