Printed in 1939; per the latest copyright date.These books measure 8.75 inches tall.They require around 14-15 inches on the shelf. This is a very rugged and durable set; meant to be read by children; and will last for centuries. CONDITION: This set as a whole, and especially volume one shows reading and usage wear and looseness. Well preserved appears to have seen minimal usage aside from volume one which has generalized wear from having been read. There is no writing; except for pencil single name on fourth book, in pencil and pencil scribble, on pastedown of another volume. There is generalized wear/rubbing/abrasion, most noticeable wear is usage wear from heavy reading to volume one so creasing rubbing stains looseness etc...; A paint stain on fore edge. The hinges all sound; but, volume one a little shaken with internal rear hinge material now visible through the internal hinge paper area. Set is bound in faux leather. Set has general wear, like a small puncture in the text block upfront in the guide volume; some abrasion at extremities, generalized wear that matches the described condition. Set is being sold as is; so, please be comfortable with some wear. The pictures are photogenic, this set may appear different in the pictures, looks to have more extremity wear in person. The spine extremities have abrasions. The heads and tails of the spines have abrasions and rubs. These are not bound in leather, they are the original cloth bindings, and are painted cloth with a simulation of leather. This set would make an excellent gift and/or addition to any fine library. Antiquarian books make a great investment, are only going up in value, and are sure to increase the aura of any room or office!
