Past Patterns 0114 - Early 1930s Beach Pajamas Sewing Pattern bust size 40"

Description: Past Patterns PP#0114Early 1930s Beach Pajamas Sewing Pattern This Early 1930s Beach Pajamas sewing pattern was originally published by an independent company. ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ On the packaging the pattern was described as "Ladies' and Misses' pajamas and jacket. The jacket has an open front and loose-hanging set-in sleeves. The waist of the pajama has surplice fronts and there is a yoke front and back. Tie-belts are attached to the right front of the waist and tie at back. The attached wide-leg trousers close on the left side.” In History of 20th Century Fashion, by Elizabeth Ewing she states, "Beach pajamas, with flaring legs, had been anticipated by slim lounging pajamas, which Chanel was making in the early 'twenties and which were soon being worn by the fashionable. The beach ones, however, had a life all their own and were worn exclusively on beaches everywhere, usually with backless sun-tops or sleeveless blouses....It was the beginning of a new category of clothes, the start of the 'casuals' which were to have a great vogue in future years." Outside of the US, this pattern would be referred to as Beach Pyjamas and Jacket. A review on constructing the Beach Pajamas from this pattern is available at https://seamracer.wordpress.com/tag/past-patterns/ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ When it was published, this pattern was designed for the body of an early 1930s woman with 40” bust 43” hips. ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Fabric Requirements Using 36” Wide material 4 3/8 Yds for Pajamas with Contrasting Jacket, Yoke and Bands on Trousers 4 Yds for Separate Pajamas 1 7/8 Yds for Separate Jacket Expect 2 ½ Yds usage if using contrast material Suggested Fabrics Early 1930s Beach Pajamas were generally made of cotton broadcloth and cotton pongee. We do this with the hope that people will start creating and wearing reproductions instead of antique originals. The clothes we wear and that our grandparents wore are part of our cultural history. Just as you would not abuse antiques furniture by cutting off decorative trim, so you should not abuse antique garments by wearing them. Our second goal is that you pick up a little bit of history when you sew the garment. The fit, the cut, the fasteners, the fabric design, just to mention a few things, are part to the technology of the time. Our third goal, in sewing the patterns, is to spark an interest in genealogy and local history. Researching local history is always a rewarding pursuit. SKU 0114 Thanks for looking!
