The larger diameter shaft used in the 64N-910 gear is part number 64C-910. The smaller shaft used on the 64-910 gear is part number 64A-910 which you possibly won't see on any schematics. I have not seen it on any myself. The 64N gear also uses a separate black plastic bushing (# 64B-910) similar to those used in the SS spinning reels. Some reels received a brass bushing. It appears Penn was experimenting with this idler gear trying several different designs over the years. One interesting point is that the idler gear shaft is keyed on the tip, as is the hole in the #27 plate that it seats into. This locks the shaft into place when installing the gear, and keeps the shaft from spinning when you screw it in from the outside. Also note that the black bushing serves well to provide a slight bit of clearance between the rotating gear and the flat surface of the plate it would otherwise rub against. Note the 64-910 idler gear does not use a separate bushing.
