Description: Pyromorphite, Chihuahua, Mexico A choice TN of apple green, glassy and translucent pyromorphite presenting the classic barrel-shaped habit. The old, yellowing typewritten label lists “Chihuahua, Mexico” as the locality. The crystals are set on a gossan of Goethite and Limonite. Based upon a search on Mindat, I am virtually certain that this specimen is sourced from the San Luis Mine, San José, Guazapares Municipality in Chihuahua. It is reported that the species is quite rare in Mexico. The color, translucency and luster rival those from Bunker Hill, IMHO. These San Luis pyromorphite specimens came out between the 1950s and the 1970s. This one, sourced from a 40+ year old uncirculated collection, appears to be from that time, based upon the appearance of the label. Dimensions: 17 x 10 x 14 mm.
