Description: Note that this item comes from the estate of Maine country-western and bluegrass pioneer of Event Records, Allerton "Al" Hawkes. Al Hawkes is remembered for his pirate radio station, WW2A, which broadcast out of Maine in the 1940s; he and Alton Meyers performed together as the first interracial white-and-black country-bluegrass music duo, the Cumberland Ridge Runners, in the 1940s; and as the founder of Event Records, he recorded with musicians including a young Lenny Breau, Dick Curless, Hal Lone Pine, and Curtis Johnson. The iconic Hawkes Plaza Repair Shop walking service man sign on Route 302 in Westbrook, Maine, is also a very familiar part of his legacy to all Maine tourists and locals alike. Mr. Hawkes passed away on December 28, 2018. Please review pictures and condition description carefully.
