Description: Russian cyrillic on the back identifies this rare lacquer brooch as "Lel," the village of Kholui, artist (literally "doer") Stepanov. Beautiful handpainting, with incredible detail and bright coloring. It is a very hard-to-find image and may be vintage. Portrayed is Lel, the Russian pagan god of passion to the left, playing a wind instrument, presumably wooing two maidens to the right. Behind them are a goat and sheep. Gold colored circles and dots accent the outer edge. It is slightly convex with a moderately shiny surface. Approximate measurements - 2" x 1 3/8". It looks like a common safety pin is used as a closure. Combined shipping is available for multiple jewelry purchases.
