Description: Sold as is Serious buyers with basic understandings only please for sale Shobu-zukuri Naginata in Shirasaya, Mumei unsgined as shown in the photos, this particular blade is a relatively rare and unusual 菖蒲造Shobu-zukuri Naginata with an interesting Sugata. Most of the Naginata blades we see nowadays are known as 巴型Tomoe-gata, which generally are in a Tsukuri-komi style similar to a 鵜の首造Unokubi-zukuri and has a very identifiable Sugata. There's also another general style of Naginata blades, known as the 静型Shizu-gata, which are told to be the type that's used by male Samurai on the battlefield, which generally are in 菖蒲造Shobu-zukuri with a thinner and longer Sugata. The actual differentiation of the two types are pretty much empirical and can be very ambiguous based on cases. Some might say this particular piece can be classified as a Shizu-gata, some might say otherwise, more research awaiting. As shown in the photos, this particular blade is overall in ok condition with no catastrophic damages observed. Based on the tang condition and overall Sugata this looks like an early piece, but specific attribution unknown. One thing to mention is that though the Hadori area (whitened Hamon part) is very wide, the actual Hamon is very thin, but still intached. Nagasa: see last photo
