Description: This collectible item is a piece of American history from 1912, representing the graduation of colored high school students in Houston, Texas. One month earlier was the sinking of the titanic and a singing tribute was acknowledged It is a original Commence Exercise Program from May 31, 1912 for "Colored High School" in Houston, Texas. It was first established in 1893 and in 1928 and was renamed Booker T. Washington High School. One of the songs by the choir that was noted in the program was in memory of the Titanic. I believe the Principal Charles H. Atherton was the first African American principal in Texas. After some research I could not fine another program like this. Not surprised because programs from school graduations weren't normally saved. Condition: The program has some wear and creases from age and being handled. Any questions please let me know. Will pack securely.
