Measuring approximately 1 1/4" long, the Ravenine pendant comes on a 20" blackened pewter chain. Symbolism: A powerful totem in many traditions, Ravens are associated with prophecy, magick and fate. In the Norse tradition, ravens are sacred to the god Odin who was known as the raven god. Odin kept two ravens, Hugin and Munin (Thought and Memory) who spied on Midgard (the world of men) for him. Odin's battle maidens, the Valkyries, often appeared as ravens. In Celtic mythology, the raven is associated with Morrigan, the powerful goddess of battle and fertility who also took the shape of a raven. In Native American belief, the raven is associated with shapeshifting and powerful magick. Considered to be powerful protectors of mankind, the raven is revered by shamans who converse with the bird to discover the will of the gods. Handcrafted English Pewter: This pendant is handmade in England using the highest quality English Pewter. English Pewter is a lead-free, zinc-free alloy which is valued second only to silver. English Pewter is much harder to craft than the low-grade zinc and lead alloys (which contain a significant amount of toxic impurities) that are still being used in some jewelry manufacture today. Because these pendants are handcrafted and hand-finished, each one is unique; and there are slight variations between individual pieces.
