ROLAND WINTERS - AUTOGRAPHED SIGNED PHOTOGRAPH CO-SIGNED BY: KEYE LUKE - HFSID 35893 ROLAND WINTERS and KEYE LUKE Black and white publicity photograph of Roland Winters and Keye Luke as Charlie Chan and his #1 son, Lee Chan. Photograph signed: "Roland Winters" and "Keye Luke/#1 Son Charlie Chan". B/w, 10x8 overall, image 6x4 (one surface). Winters starred as Charlie Chan and Luke was his #1 son, Lee Chan, in two films: The Feathered Serpent (1948) and The Sky Dragon (1949). When they began their association, Luke, who had previously played the part in Chan films starring Warner Oland, was 44 years of age - and five months older than the actor who played his father! American actor ROLAND WINTERS (1904-1989), born Roland Winternitz in Boston, is best known for playing Hollywood's third incarnation of Charlie Chan. A veteran of stage and radio, Winters had debuted in films in 1947, and he would play the Chinese detective in four previous films (The Chinese Ring, 1947; Docks of New Orleans, The Shanghai Chest and The Golden Eye, all 1948) before teaming up with Luke. Winters also appeared in a number of other films and in made-for-TV movies, TV miniseries and TV series. He was a frequent guest star on TV series from 1951 (The Web) until 1973 (Adam's Rib). Chinese-born actor KEYE LUKE (1904-1991) had played Lee Chan opposite Warner Oland in 1935 (Charlie Chan in Paris, Charlie Chan in Shanghai), 1936 (Charlie Chan at the Circus, Charlie Chan at the Race Track, Charlie Chan at the Opera), 1937 (Charlie Chan at the Olympics, Charlie Chan on Broadway, Charlie Chan at Monte Carlo) and opposite Peter Lorre in the 1938 film, Mr. Moto's Gamble. He was also known for playing Kato in two Green Hornet films, The Green Hornet (1940) and The Green Hornet Strikes Again (1941), and for his role as Dr. Lee Wong How in several films in the Dr. Gillespie series (1942, 1943, 1944, 1945 and 1947). Luke also had a meaty role in The Good Earth (1937) and was known to television viewers as Master Po on the TV series, Kung Fu (1972-1975) and the 1986 made-for-TV film, Kung Fu: The Movie. Luke, who also appeared regularly on M*A*S*H and other TV series, also lent his talents and did voice work for a long list of TV shows. He was also an accomplished artist. Winters' writing shaky. Defects from original negative have reproduced at background. Fine condition.
