Description: Up for sale is this rare antique Law book by John Appleton, Justice of the Supreme Judicial Court of Maine. It is a first edition, published in 1860. In my research I found a few references to the book and a modern reprint available, but I couldn't find another original example. It is in poor condition. Both covers are completely separated, the first few pages are coming loose, there is some toning, soiling, page folds, edges that have a fair amount of wear and loss. The covers are worn and soiled. To me the most interesting aspect of the book is the appendix at the end that addresses the testimony of Africans and Indians, and people of mixed race. Seeing some of the antiquated thoughts, even those of abolitionist or people sympathetic to the minority's rights, helps remind how far we have come as a Country, even as we have a long way to still. Measures about 9 1/2" x 6 1/4". Please view all 12 photos to help judge condition.
