Description: You are looking at a very dramatic Art Deco (oil on canvas)monumental painting of one of the most famous heiresses of all time--certainly the most well known of the 20th century ---Doris Duke. The painting is titled "Doris Duke at Rough Point"(One of her estates--this one at Newport,RI). The painting was purchased at a Merrill Auction in Burlington Vermont a decade ago and has hung in myhouse since then--I am down-sizing and something of this size--historical as it is--just will not fit into a small beach-house when I leave the manse that I am in currently. The style is so easy to define--it could be the poster child for ART DECO--"AND THAT WOULD BE ACCURATE," It appears to have been created perhaps in the late 1930's or early 1940's--which would have been the half way point in Ms. Dukes life... It will be difficult to ship because of its size--if it is sold on the east coast I would be willing to deliver for expenses and time...or you could pick it upetc...I have tried to get a correct quote from EBAY but been unable to--they keep coming up with $22.75--so don'tpay any attention to that quote--we will have to figure it out for ourselves at the end of the auction. It is signed T. Hillmann 1947...and for those that don'tknow T. Hillmann is a listed artist as is his son in a more contemporary way.
