Hand carved from a single piece of unpainted weathered hardwood. There are old inventory numbers on the side (550).Provenance: Private collection. Collected in the 1970s during an expedition through the rivers of the West Papua New Guinea Region and selected prior to New Guinean regulations limiting the export of art. This artifact has been kept in storage for over 40 years and it's been offered for sale for the first time since collected.Condition: This artifact is hand carved by Asmat Tribesmen and in very good condition it might exhibit signs of environmental exposure, insect degradation or utilitarian use, chips, natural wood splits, patina, polish from handling and repairs that are consistent with its age.
