Description: Hello, This is a very interesting TRENCH ART piece. Large carved middle finger ashtray done / remembering Fulda, Germany 1967-1970 and the Vietnam experience. It is made of dense wood and carved into the F - -k You hand & Middle Finger and dated 1967-1970 Fulda, Germany Well done with nice detailing in the skin folds and fingernails. 11" tall to the end of the extended middle finger. It is proportionate, except the middle finger is longer than normal anatomy. Smart move to express the EFF YOU part of it. Laying on its back, the distal middle finger is 3" off the table. Other wise avg. thickness is 2"- 2.5". The bowl (palm) of the ashtray shows minor usage ( A few cigarette burns). The reverse of the hand is flattened with the words "Mardi Grau" written in pen on it. I do not know when or why those words were written there. I don't have the exact history of this piece. Most likely a member of the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment known as"The Blackhorse Regiment" carved this piece while at Downs Barracks in Fulda, Germany. Please review the pics and ask any questions. I will do my best to answer. Thank you ! The 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment ("Blackhorse Regiment") is a unit of the United States Army In Country (Vietnam), The Blackhorse Base Camp (also known as LZ Blackhorse or simply Xuân Lộc) is a former U.S. Army base and current People's Army of Vietnam (PAVN) base near the town of Xuân Lộc in Đồng Nai Province in southern Vietnam. The base (Fulda) offered operational training & support activities. It was located in The Fulda Gap, which was best viewed by the West as a probable place for a Soviet tank attack.
