Description: Antique Original M1873 Springfield Trapdoor Rifle Bayonet with scabbard and Frog. Both the Bayonet and Frog Rosette are Massachusetts Marked. Bayonet measures 21" overall with a blade length of 18". Ricasso stamped, "MASS/U.S./S". Blade shows a light brown/plum smooth patina. The socket show a small crack on the top front. There is also a hairline crack starting on the "L" mortise of the right side of the socket running upward a bit past half way from top. Still has the socket collar and screw. The Scabbard has the same patina, and is dent free. The leather on the frog is stamped with what appears to be "H.E.L." over A.R. SMITH". The brass rosette is marked, "MASS". A cool piece used by the Massachusetts Militia back in the day. See our other Items at TR-West
