Born in San Francisco in 1923, he entered military service in 1943, earning his navigator rating and commission as a second lieutenant. During World War II, he flew 34 combat missions in the European Theater with the Fifteenth Air Force, targeting areas across the Balkans, France, Italy, and Germany. Following the war, he became a senior instructor in the Air Navigation-Bombardment School at Mather Air Force Base. In the Korean War, General Strack flew 28 missions over Korea as part of the Strategic Air Command’s B-29 operations. His career spanned critical roles in missile development and command positions, including leadership of the 90th Strategic Missile Wing.
