Description: Offered for auction a "VINTAGE SECTOR 9 LONGBOARD / SECTOR9 SKATEBOARD W/ GULLWING TRUCKS". Measurements: Length...45 1/2", Width at widest point...9 1/2", and weighs 7.75 Lbs. This Longboard is in good preowned, used condition with normal wear, tattered deck, scrapes and scratches to wood surface. Both top and underside has the SECTOR 9 logos. The Gullwing Mission 1 wheels appear to be in good used condition and freely rotate. The front and back wood tips show age cracks, and there is a minor wood chip on the front tip underside. This Sector 9 Longboard appears quite shabby, but the character is very chic. it is offered "as is" with no returns or refunds after received. Anecdotal Generational History & Confession: "I admit, I know very little about skateboards, as I was obsessed in my youth with wanting to borrow my older friend's 57 Chevy to take my girlfriend to drive-in movies, which might have presented quite a challenge on a skateboard" LOL. A Google search revealed that skateboards are popular for youth ages 5 to 14 years old, with the average age 10, however, today that line stretches far beyond youth to 30-something, with new-age video gaming eclipsing that age expansion to 40 plus years. Older women might say "WHERE ARE THE MENS?" (SIC). "In the 1950's the comparable means of transportation before skateboards was the "SKATE MOBILE" (handmade scooter). It consisted of connected L-shaped wood, 2' & 3' long, width & depth 2" X 4". It was designed with a 12" wood handle and angled side planks intersecting handle and base. One old metal skate was separated and nailed to the front and back of the bottom plank. The Elementary School riders hand crafted their own mobiles and often decorated the wood with soda bottle caps. After graduating to Jr. High School (Middle School) the luster of this mode of transportation diminished, as teenage boys wanted to attract teenage girls, and the skate mobile was replaced with an interest in cars and motor scooters, even when getting a license might be a few years away. (There was always your older brother or cousin who might loan you his car or Honda 50 motor scooter for a small fee). Skate Mobiles would never be ridden to Senior High School, as it was incongruent with the "hipsters" (not hip-hop-sters) transportation of the day, especially when the threads of the day was custom tailored slacks with genuine Alligator / Crocodile belt, Ban-Lon or Strassi Knit shirts, Evans slippers / shoes and a Be-Bop cap. NOTE: Let me be clear, my indulgence simply illustrates drastically changing times and not meant to denigrate skateboarding or it's enthusiast, especially in light of their incredible talent and skill".
