Description: Nelson McCoy Pottery Company Blue Onyx - a cobalt blue glaze blended with white, is the coloring found on this gorgeous early 30s McCoy Art Pottery footed planter. Measures 6" tall x 8" diameter with a 4.75" top opening. Helping date this McCoy cobalt blue drip glaze or blue onyx planter is the bottom of the piece, showing where the points of the stilts used in the firing process can be seen. McCoy rarely marked any of their pieces before the mid 1930s. McCoy oven used natural forms such as Berries and Leaves or Leaf and Berry, such as in this fine example. Very good condition with two small blemishes noted on the foot of the planter where a tiny amount of glaze has flaked off this is shown in a detail close up photo. Thanks for looking!
