Dust jacket is in very good condition, has a tiny bump with small closed tear on top right corner of front, very minimal rubbing at top of spine edge, slight yellowing due to age on inside flaps but does not transfer to outside of jacket which is black. Bright orange and turquoise colors on jacket. Pictures included are of the actual book being offered for sale. Styron’s nonfiction book starts with an introduction, but some selected writings also have separate introductions. A book of short sketches and articles, he writes about the life of Douglas McArthur, Richard Daly in Chicago 1968, and William Faulkner, among others. From a fascinating account for his search for Nat Turner and articles on the issue of race, slavery, and our heritage, to writings on American character and the military, to the meaning of Auschwitz, Styron enlarges upon many of the themes he has discussed in his fiction, resulting in a stimulating exploration—a mix of essays, reviews, and reminiscences. The pieces in his book all exhibit the intelligence, humanity, vision and conscience of one of our best writers.
