Description: STK: #BAYO-7Brought to you by CAMARILLO TRADERS specialists in new, used & antique arms, collectible militaria and rustic ephemera WWII German Standard Modell Spanish M1943 and M1944 Rifle (M1884/98 Third Variation Style Bayonet) FLASHGUARD Knife Bayonet (#7257) & Metal Scabbard Manufacturer: German - Unknown Model: German Standard Modell (M1884/98 based) Blade Length:9.75" Serial #:7257 TEXT GOES HERETEXT GOES HERE --> Offered here is a WWII Spanish M1943 and M1944 rifle German Standard Modell (M1884/98) bayonet and scabbard. These were made and primarily used on the M1944 rifle but could also be used on the M1943 rifle too. Spain received these in the 1930's. Bayonets are found either with or without a flashguard. Some can be found with a muzzle ring too. Overall, this bayonet is in Fair - Good condition, considering its age and history. The press catch is functional with stiff spring tension. Both the pommel and guard are securely fastened to the tang. They have oxidation and scrapes. Some of the remaining finish has started to turn a gray patina color. The flashguard is securely fastened and has both impact marks and oxidation. The screws securely fasten the panels, however, one is an escutcheon screw and the other is either a rivet or a ground-down escutcheon screw. It is hard to tell. The unground one has light tool marks with strong slots, but has grit inside the slots plus oxidation. The wood grip panels have compressions, draglines and scrapes. The wood feels gritty. Also, the wood has darkened with time. The blade's spine and fuller have light oxidation and scrapes. The blade edge has no nicks or dings and appears to have its original factory edge. The tip is intact and comes to a semi-sharp point. The tip is slightly bent about 1/4". The finish is in the white and has scattered dried cosmoline throughout. The spine has a marking that is hard to read. It looks like an "H" but it is hard to tell for sure. The right guard is marked with the serial number "7257". The scabbard is in Fair - Good condition, considering its age and history. It has been painted black at some point and some of the paint finish has worn off. The frog stud is securely fastened to the body. There are impact marks and oxidation. Not much of the original finish is left. Where the paint has worn off, the metal has oxidized. There are no visible markings on the scabbard. This bayonet and scabbard will be a great addition to your Spanish M1943 / M1944 rifle, or a bayonet collection in general.
